From a blank canvas to mccracken.properties

It started as an afternoon of ideas about what a web page could make beautiful, with a firm instruction not to build anything yet. About 29 hours later, McCracken County’s 35,194 parcels were raining down as glass on this site’s front page. It went that fast because none of it started from zero: Taxr was already up and running, with the county’s parcel records, the data team that packs them, a page for every parcel, and the server this site runs on. This is how it went, in eight chapters: the ideas we tried, the ones we kept, the ones we let go, and why. Six more follow, into October 4: the Apple TV, how the region and then the whole state were made ready for the counties still to come, the evening both apps came to the iPhone and iPad, the night the quilt became real cloth, and the evening the glass under it learned to grip.
